WASATCH CHAPTER - 03/20/2019
Joe Riel with 3DS/Solidworks presents The Value of Model-Based Definition at the Hill Air Force Base Technology Expo, Layton, Utah, in March. In March, the chapter hosted its annual Technology Expo on Hill Air Force Base, Layton, Utah. The pre-registrations exceeded 120 participants and another 120+ signed up at the door for the annual event, bringing the number of attendees close to 250. Forty vendors were onsite. Many attendees claimed they came to talk with specific vendors or company representatives because they saw the vendor or company had a booth. Representatives for the local chapter were onsite to discuss why they were members of AFCEA, relate the value of membership and accommodate those who wished to join. The small business office from Hill AFB also was present, with many vendors attending the presentation.

In May, (l-r) Ed Drollette, chapter president (far l) awards the STEM Science Teaching Tools Grant to Box Elder High School STEM teacher Eric Thorson, Principal Gary Allen, and STEM teacher Nolin Crook. Sammy Fan, vice president of finance, and Dr. Tim Martin, RVP regional vice president are please to present as well. In May, the AFCEA Wasatch Chapter awarded a $1,000 STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Science Teaching Tools Grant to Box Elder High School in Brigham City, Utah. STEM teachers Nolin Crook and Eric Thorson and Principal Gary Allen accepted the grant from Ed Drollette, chapter president, Sammy Fan, vice president of finance, and Dr. Tim Martin, regional vice president. This grant will enhance the engineering program at Box Elder High by providing key equipment for deepening student understanding during in-class activities. Funds will be used to purchase work tables in F-7, breadboarding electronics, a load testing machine for truss experiments, VEX robotic parts, a storage supply cabinet, in-class presentation sound system and miscellaneous consumables.

Justin Searle, UtiliSec, presents a cyber training class on SamuraiSTFU at the Hill Air Force Base Technology Expo and Cyber Training 2014 in March.
In March, the chapter and FDA Expo hosted Hill Air Force Base (AFB) Technology Expo and Cyber Training 2014. Thirty-three industry partners showcased their products and services during this year's event. More than 400 participants attended the exposition. In addition, the chapter held an SBA presentation, "How to Sell Services and Products to Hill AFB," by James R. Dean, small business programs director at Hill AFB. Finally, Justin Searle, managing partner at UtiliSec, presented a cyber training event, "SamuraiSTFU: Security Testing Framework for Utilities." The event awarded 1 hour of continuing education unit (CEU) credit to more than 125 attendees.

WASATCH—Ed Drollette (r), chapter president, presents a Science Teaching Tools grant to Luke Mandleco of Ben Lomond High School in July. On July 8, the chapter presented a well-deserved science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) Science Teaching Tools grant for $1,000 to Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah, and Luke Mandleco. The grant will buy 50 books needed for their Physics with Technology program.

WASATCH CHAPTER - 01/24/2013
Dr. Tim Martin (l), chapter president, and Dr. Steven E. Lobell (r), professor of political science, present a grant for $5,000 to Capt. Brent R. Taylor, USA, a Ph.D. student at the University of Utah and winner of the AFCEA Educational Foundation Fall 2013 Intelligence Graduate Scholarship. The chapter presented the scholarship at the university's Hinckley Institute of Politics in January. January 24, 2013 was no ordinary day along the Wasatch Front in Utah. Although Utah is known for the “greatest snow on Earth,” new ice (and sheets of it) blanketed the Front. Traffic was snarled for most Utahans that day as a rare winter rain combined with the inversion causing a most icy commute for tens of thousands of travelers and making I-15 a slow-moving crawl from Nephi to Logan. But icy roads weren't the only things on the minds of a select few Utah universities that day. Scholars earned nearly $9,000 in scholarship funds from the AFCEA Educational Foundation and the chapter, and they were eagerly awaiting the scheduled presentations. WASATCH CHAPTER - 09/14/2011
Lt. Col. Steve Bailey, USAF (r), chapter president, joins event attendees to present Dave Jenkins, vice president of marketing operations for C7 Data Centers, with a chapter coin in September. In September, the chapter held a lunch and learn event at one of Utah's leading cloud computing and data resource centers. Dave Jenkins, vice president of marketing operations for C7 Data Centers, Eric Pletsch and Ron Driggs hosted a discussion on the various applications of cloud computing and identified why Utah has become the a hub for data resource centers supporting offsite storage and disaster recovery. The discussion highlighted the characteristics of speed, flexibility, efficiency and rightsizing as well as the ability to share resources as contributing factors in the growth of cloud computing in both private and public arenas.

WASATCH CHAPTER - 03/30/2011
In March, Lt. Col. Steve Bailey, USAF (l), chapter president, presents Barton Clements, director of the 75th Air Base Wing Communications Directorate, with a chapter coin. In March, the chapter hosted the 2011 Hill Air Force Base Technology Exposition. Thirty-three industry partners showcased their products and unique services during this year's event. Their participation was key to the cross flow of information between government and industry. More than 350 participants attended the exposition to explore how advances in today's technology can make the workplace more efficient and cost effective. In addition, the chapter held its quarterly member's luncheon at Club Hill. Barton Clements, director of the 75th Air Base Wing Communications Directorate and deputy chief information officer for the Ogden Air Logistics Center, served as the guest speaker. Clements delivered an address on the changes affecting the communications community as well as his vision for communicating associated challenges to customers.

November guest speaker Maj. Gen. John W. Maluda, USAF, director, Cyberspace Transformation and Strategy, Secretary of the Air Force Office of Warfighting Integration (SAF/XC), and chief information officer, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., highlights focus areas within the SAF/XC. Maj. Gen. John W. Maluda, USAF, director, Cyberspace Transformation and Strategy, Secretary of the Air Force Office of Warfighting Integration, and chief information officer (SAF/XC), the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., addressed the chapter as the November meeting's featured speaker. Gen. Maluda detailed the Air Force chief of staff's top five priorities and the Air Force's role in the Global War on Terrorism. He also discussed the SAF/XC's key focus areas, which include Air Force Network Operations and workforce transformation efforts. This was the chapter's first meeting in more than two years. Essye Miller, chapter president, encouraged attendees to become engaged and to actively participate in helping the chapter establish itself.
